In total, the Camino is 9 miles. It begins on the Bridle Path on Central Avenue, goes along the canal, and then into the Phoenix Mountains Preserve ...finally ending on N. 40th Street at Canaan in the Desert.
There is a short Camino that begins at Dreamy Draw Park (2421 E Northern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85020).
The shorter Camino starts where the Full Camino moves toward Trail 100. This shorter route progresses along the paved path and enters the Preserve at the end of 32nd Street. This is a flat route with little to no elevation change. This short camino is approximately 4 miles.
You can walk the Camino whenever you have the space.
The Camino has several routes to choose from which are all about the same distance, just differ in difficulty.
Walk it by yourself or with a friend.
We'll be walking the Camino on Good Friday - April 18, 2025.
The walk begins at Cross Roads United Methodist Church (7901 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85020) and ends at Canaan in the Desert (9849 N 40th St, Phoenix, AZ 85028).

We're offering Camino de Phoenix with a passion for sharing a pilgrimage route in the heart of the city for those who are seeking to see the sacred in their local context. We often think we have to take a trip to another location but sometimes everything we need to see is right in front of us... if we will slow down and look. The Camino is an offering of the Spiritual Formation Society of Arizona. www.SFSAZ.org

Prayer is a gift, not a task or a requirement for this walk or anything else in life. God offers us Himself and make Himself available to us. A pilgrimage aids in our reception of the gift of prayer by eliminating distractions and placing us in His creation. There is also something significant about the act of walking and our ability to be present. See the section on "Why a Pilgrimage."
We will offer a few ideas on prayer, and update the ideas over time.
If God is everywhere, why go on a pilgrimage that would seem to suggest that God is somewhere "out there?"
Father Murray Bobo suggests: “Pilgrimages are not about one place being more holy than another, for God is everywhere. Making pilgrimages involves a response to something inside us that longs to move toward, that seeks the holy beyond.”
So, a pilgrimage walk/hike gives space to walk with God - to prayer and discover with God what He is up to.
A pilgrimage can be a "set apart" space to discern with God, listen to God, and walk in the awareness of His presence.
